CIA backed destablistion of Middle East
Middle-East
The region that lies west of southern Asia and to east to Europe. A gateway to Asia,Europe and Africa. A place which could have been a Geo-economic hot- spot, today is home to numerous wars. With humongous oil deposits this is just not a intersection for most of world but also one place on earth where any human would want to reign. With high amount of resources this region has become a victim to Geo-politics.Pre WWII
In earl 1910s most of middle east countries had found huge oil deposits in their territory, most of the region was under the rule of the British empire and the ottoman empire. As both the world wars came to end the world had progressed a
lot, The region had now mostly gained independence from the British empire and the ottoman empire. Persia (modern day Iran) was the first to find oil deposits in 1904 later followed by Saudi Arabia in 1938 and by late 1945 oil had been found in most of these countries. Most of these countries citizens had experienced an boom in their income as oil was being found, these vast desert lands were now of extreme value.
Cold War
The end of WWII led to the cold war between the United States of America and the Soviet union, starting with the development and testing of nuclear capable warheads. In 1962 with the Cuban missile crisis the USA and the soviet union had clearly wanted to fight a battle off their territories without harming their assets or citizens, this mode of warfare are called Proxy wars. Middle east is one of the many victims of these proxy wars. As the demand for oil started raise there was a reason to have influence in the middle east, this took USA and soviet union to the Middle east.
Iran
In 1953 the CIA had arranged a coup to overthrow the democratically elected government and give the shah of Iran the whole powers, doing this could give USA good relations with oil rich Iran which was bordering USSR. This helped only USA to stop USSR's influence on Iran and let them use cheap crude oil. This however benefited the USA far off, it didn't benefit the local people of the Iran who were more religious and wanted to retain their local sense, but the shah of Iran was tending to turn Iran to the west.
Only until the late 70's by when the Iranians found it hard to live by, the Shahs government was turning more violent towards the people. In 1979 the people overthrew the government of shah and established Iran as a Islamic republic.
The very USA which had helped Iran from 1950 now was turning against Iran's democratic government, USA administration was supporting the violent blood thirsty reign of Shah over that of the democracy just because the democratic government wasn't in their favor. After 20 years of a bloody regime why at all would the people of Iran support USA? This led to sanctions over Iran, the USA has since been trying to collapse Iran because the leadership isn't in favor of the White house.
Iraq
Iraq was a stable country until Saddam Hussein rose to power with backing of the CIA during 1975 as a general and by 1979 he forced the then president to resign and took to power on own will.
In 1979 the same year USA lost its puppet government in Iran, its neighbor Iraq was under US influence. A year later in 1980 Saddam Hussein went to a war against Iran citing that the Iranian revolution would also influence the Iraqi people. The Iran-Iraq was lasted 10 years, it was supported and backed by USA government, US sold arms to Iraq during the war.
The war ended in 1990, Iraq by then had accumulated a lot of debt from other middle east nations especially Kuwait, when asked to repay the debt Saddam Hussein waged a war on Kuwait and went on to capture most of Kuwait in 1991 and its vast oil resources(20% of middle Easts oil). This sparked an uproar in the international community and US was being help responsible for arming Saddam Hussein, so USA with NATO allies launched a campaign and pushed the Iraq forces out of Kuwait. This made USA look like savior and Saddam Hussein a radical power, this shifted the international opinion.
Afghanistan
Afghanistan was undergoing its golden era during the 70s, having a stable government and high development. It all changed when in 1979 USSR invaded Afghanistan, they assumed it would be easy for them to undertake Afghanistan too as USSR. But the US was right in the backyard in Pakistan, right after the USSR invasion of Afghanistan, the CIA had started to try to push back the soviet forces.Operation cyclone was launched in 1979 by the CIA which intended to fund people fighting against USSR, they were called mujahedin's and CIA decided to fund one such group called TALIBAN'S. CIA poured over 20 BILLION US Dollars (50 BILLION USD adjusted to inflation) to talibans over 10 years period. US covertly sold weapons to talibans.
One of most feared terrorist organizations we know today is AL-QAEDA, it was a branch of talibans. Osama Bin Laden was also fighting soviets with funding from CIA in 1980s. CIA had armed these very organizations which today it calls terrorist organizations.
In 2001 after the 9/11 attacks US invaded to eradicate talibans, little we did not know was that talibans were made by the US government itself. Ever since 1979 the situation in Afghanistan has been worsening more and more, Once a calm mountain nation today is home to worlds most dangerous places.
Other Instances
CIA has been involved in Syria,Yemen,Saudi-Arabia and Israel. Ever since 9/11 US government has spent over 6.3 trillion us dollars on wars in middle east. We are always shown how undeveloped and unsafe these countries are in media, but are never shown the real cause for such conditionsBecause if we do learn the cause of these unstable countries and their wars, weapons exporting countries like the USA and other developed countries will stop profiting from weapon sales, and will lose their ability to stay rich. These so called superpowers of the world are depicting themselves high standards by just downgrading other countries huge amounts of resources. Had these wars not taken place Middle east might be one of the richest regions on the planet.
